“What is born of the flesh is flesh. What is born of the Spirit is spirit” (from a late night chat between Jesus and a curious Jewish leader named Nicodemus. John 3:6). “God is spirit and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth” (from a noon-day chat between Jesus and a woman at a community water well. John 4:24).
Church community happens when people are touched by Jesus Christ. We are brought together by the impact of the Gospel of Jesus. Paying attention not so much to the institution of the church or one’s own thoughts but to the call, the gift, the surprise element, then gratefulness becomes the beginning of the church’s life. Belonging to the community is less about one’s self and more about those whom God brings alongside us to challenge, to encourage, to teach and (basically) to love each other in a new kind of community that Jesus called the ‘kingdom of God.’

BAPTISM
Baptism – being immersed, sprinkled or splashed with water- is a visible sign of an inner grace, new life in Christ; that Jesus lived, died, and rose from the dead so that we might be open to receive his forgiveness, faith, hope and love. Special days in the church year are opportunities to celebrate new life in faith through baptism, such as the season of Easter or Saint’s days. Christian formation (making disciples who make disciples of Jesus) is one of the mysteries and joys of our church community.

FIRST COMMUNION / LIFE IN THE EUCHARIST
Christians of all ages or church backgrounds may receive communion. Receiving the bread and wine of communion is better understood for school-age children when they learn the meaning of Jesus’ life and self-giving. Please contact the church office regarding age-appropriate classes.
CONFIRMATION
The Bishop lays hands on the head of a confirmand as Jesus did with the first disciples. Our choice to confirm promises made for us in our baptism is a step in our discipleship with Jesus. Being filled with the Spirit is essential to being strengthened in Christ’s service everyday. See the Book of Common Prayer Pages 544-555 or the Book of Alternative Services Pages 146-149, 623-630.

FUNERALS
Life is a gift. Dying, assured of Christ’s presence, and of one’s final wishes being respected, are also gifts. The Church considers it an honour to walk with families through this time and arrange worship either in the church, funeral chapel, graveside or other location that honours your loved one and the family and friends who gather to remember and give thanks to God.
