Migrant Workers Welcome Event was held Sat June 6 at St John’s with 23 people present for dinner, meet a nurse, doctor, see the health related displays, play dominoes, get to know one another. Some of the workers have been coming to Canada from Jamaica for 23 years, some from Mexico for many years as well. There are about 250 workers in our community from those two countries whose labour means fresh fruit and vegetables for the local markets such as Watson’s and Algoma Orchards, Links hydroponic greenhouse and Everfresh in Newcastle.
